Canon 8000f scanner driver
« on: December 23, 2009, 21:48 »
I am having problems with my canon 8000f scanner. Although I have down loaded the latest scanGear CS the driver is still showing up as the old one (2003) so when I try to copy, it says twain driver missing or words to that effect. I am at the cross roads now do I scrap my scanner and buy a new one or is there something I can do?

Have you fully uninstalled the old drivers, Den?  Remind me, which version of Windows are you using?

Assuming the new drivers are later than 2003, my first thought is that the old ones haven't been uninstalled properly, Den.  I'm not familiar with Windows 7, but I assume you can still do this in Device Manager?  Of course, I guess it's possible that the new drivers are not Win7 compatible.  :dunno:

Windows probably wont find the latest drivers by itself as they wont have been certified yet.
As Simon says, uninstall from the device manager and then do Scan for Hardware Changes  or reboot but when it tries to load the old windows drivers cancel it. Then open the device manager again and double click on the scanner which should now have a yellow ! or ? next to it. Go to the reinstall driver part and select the let me choose the location or words to that effect and go to the folder where you saved the latest drivers to.
It will probably say that these drivers arent certified by MS but press continue anyway and they should install  :)

I've tried that but it still seems to show the same driver. When I try to copy anything it then comes up with "Unable to select twain device"  :dunno:

I use some software called Vuescan. When you install it a box comes up asking if you want to install something that makes the twain drivers work with almost all scanners. So maybe something like that would sort you out  ???

Installed my new Canon 8800f and it runs great, but PhotoStudio V5.5 says it requires version 6 to run OK with Windows 7 but then wont let me upgrade it yet.
