Have you tried booting from a Linux CD? Assuming you changed the System drive, the machine wouldn't work. Where was the mobo at the time?

So, did you change the system drive and where was the mobo.

Until you can get this resolved, my best advice would be to try and recover the images to another machine, then try starting up the machine with only the graphics card installed. If that works, add one device at a time till it breaks. If it doesn't then it's most likely mobo or PSU, which is why the location of the mobo when you fired it up is critical.

Try a new PSU, that will eliminate every else, or not.

I'd see what salvageable components there are first, Martin. A new mobo would be cheaper than a complete new machine. OTOH, if you want me to give you a reason to spend money, I can be very persuasive.

Martin,

Write down here, each step that you have done, that way it is easier for people to try to help.

You replaced the HDU, then the PC did not perform a POST check or boot correct?

What did you do next?

Well, I'd still start by eliminating the PSU and decide what to do from there.

Do you have a reason to believe that the mobo may have shorted? OK, lowest cost approach would be to buy a meter and check the voltage from the PSU. If that's OK, a damaged mobo would seem to be more likely.
