Well, who'd a thowt!  You only need to stick your head out of the window where I live to realise that the bloody place is getting colder by the year.  ::)

Of course it's getting colder; what did you expect?  I've just put my tomato plants outside.  It'll be snowing by the weekend.

This is how the garden centres make their fortune.  They sell the plants too early and they all get killed off by the frost.

Hey - let's have a bit of respect for your juniors :) !  I grew my tomato plants from seeds.  In fact, my garden is burgeoning with lots of food I've grown from seed.  It looks like we'll be eating cabbage (fresh or frozen) with every meal from now until next year - I've never had such a fantastic crop.  Mind, some people would see that as a mixed blessing.

Now't wrong with cabbage!  ;D  Not sure I'd want it for every meal, though.  :ack:

I used to grow my tomato plants from seeds which I sowed in February and kept warm in the airing cupboard along with my demijohns of fermenting wine.  Couldn't do that these days with combi boilers!  Like Simon, I couldn't face eating cabbage every day but I used to grow my own back in the days when I had a vegetable garden.  They were a magnet for cabbage whites though!

I find cabbage loses its identity in a curry, but there's another way; stir fry it quickly on its own in a little ghee or butter, then reduce the heat and add a drop of water so the cabbage finishes cooking by steaming.  Meanwhile, melt a little ghee in a separate, small pan.  Just when you're ready to serve the cabbage, drop a few cumin seeds into the ghee, then pour it over the cabbage.
