A man has appeared in court charged with helping to steal more than £29,000 from Chorley Football Club.

Ian Daniels, 25, of Wymunsley, Astley Village is charged with four counts of aiding, abetting, counselling or procuring another man to steal £22,220 from Chorley Sporting Club and £6,000 from the club’s Black and White Draw.

Daniels appeared at Chorley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where he pleaded not guilty to all charges.

He is also accused of acquiring stolen property to the value of £50,000, and receiving cash deposits into his bank account totalling £14,000.

He faced a further charge of aiding or abetting a man to trespass on land at Victory Park and steal £1,000, and a further £300.

The charges relate to alleged incidents between March and September last year.

Last year bosses reported concerns about alleged financial irregularities within the football club and Chorley Sporting Club, which deals with money from the social club on Victory Park.

A massive fund-raising campaign was launched with directors at Chorley FC pumping in £15,000.

The Northern Trust Group Limited, which is owned by millionaire businessman Trevor Hemmings, also agreed to inject a further £30,000.

Chorley FC started their Evo-Stik Premier League season on Friday with a 5-4 win against Stocksbridge.

Last season they missed out on promotion in the play-offs against FC United of Manchester.

Daniels has been remanded on unconditional bail until October 8 at Chorley Magistrates’ Court, when the case is expected to be sent to crown court.

n Philip Haslam, 23, of Weldbank Lane, a former part-time accountant at the club, was due to stand trial at Preston Crown on Thursday, August 9, after being charged with stealing more than £40,000 from Chorley FC, £6,000 from the club’s Black and White draw, and more than £22,000 from Chorley Sporting Club.

He is also alleged to have entered the ground on two separate occasions last year and taken £300 and £1,000.

He denies all charges.

His trial has now been adjourned to a later date
