Yes, CD covers just weren't the same - but as downloads take over, soon you'll get bugger all!   :bawl:

Today was Record Store Day, that's a special day that independent stores are able to purchase and sell special edition records that are released by the record companies just for this occasion. My son who now lives in Rhoose has a record shop in Barry and this was a big day for him. His shop is called Retro vibe and he sells LPs, EPs and singles in the store and rare records plus 78s online. Last month on line he sold over 1600.  ;D  I think he gets it from me, sad isn't it.  :)x

I used to love wandering around the little record shops down in Brighton, but sadly rarely get the time to do so these days.  I was actually surprised, when I went down last year, which was actually on Record Store Day, how many of them seem to be surviving.

Mark said that his shop was packed out all day, he had a couple of bands playing live and gave out pens and mugs as freebies. When he arrived in the morning there were people waiting to get in. Records seem to be making quite a come back and not just with collectors. The thing that has surprised me the most is the demand he is getting for 78s (and all types). I thought that it would just be Rock n' Roll period but it's classical, big bands, singers and comedy, you name it someone collects it.   ::)

Not sure why anyone would want 78s as they were such poor quality.

78s were better quality than 45s but they got damaged a lot easier. A lot of things that were on 78s were never put out on LPs or CDs. It seems that there are collectors all over the world and they keep on buying every month. Mark has now got over 100,000 in stock plus about 80,000 LPs.

I have hundreds of CDs and still have my LP collections (about 250 Elvis LPs, at a guess). I have two really good record decks, one Rega and one by Cambridge Audio, plus top quality CD players/recorders and two Bose Waveform CD/radios. and then iPods ect'. I like my music  8-)

I have a collection of over 3000 CDs, and about 2000 DVDs, many of which I now also have on Bluray.  I am now starting to find that I need to declutter, and use the space for other things.  I never thought I'd hear myself saying it, but I'm thinking of getting rid of a large majority of them, as I simply don't play them any more.  Doesn't stop me buying new ones, though.   ;D

I've given away lots of CD's myself and still have a great number left.  But nowhere near 3000.   :o
