Cannot now get any Ebay page up
« on: August 28, 2003, 19:42 »
Help please
I have two PC's, the first one is connected to broadband and the second networked to the first via a crossover cable.
For no apparent reason, my wife suddenly, after weeks of no problems, cannot get on to " Ebay " on the second computer though she can bring up every other page easily. The first PC loads Ebay straight away every time.
Nothing has been done to either computer. ????????????????
I am totally non technical
Regards
Keith

Hi and :welcome:, One of the 'Techies' will be here shortly to help you.

Before that which operating system (i.e. Windows) version are you running and have you got any more info on how the PCs are networked?

Hi
Both machines are on XP Pro using the built in networking programme
I am using an internal broadband modem on the first machine with a crossover cable to the second which cannot raise Ebay.  It raised it fine upto a few days ago.  I have tried clearing out cookies and files.  I have looked under connections and Lan settings for auto-detect but it isn't there.
I need help at dummy level please

Hi Keith, this sounds like a puzzler, youre not trying to get onto "My ebay" on both PCs at the same time by any chance are you ?
Wondering if it wont accept the same log in details on both at once.
Are there any error message on second PC or is it just the page not displayed ?

I take it you can still access other web pages on the second PC? It's just ebay that won't load.

If you have made ebay to automatically sign you in, it might not let two PCs access the site at the same time with the same user ID - just like Sandra said  :P

Erm... I'm still thinking!

Hi
I get " page cannot be displayed ", I am  only going into Ebay on one machine at once and it isn't on auto sign in.  First machine gets into Ebay every time

It has to be a security setting on no 2 PC then Keith.
Can you open IE in both and compare them at the same time on both PCs so that you can see if there is anything set differently on no 2 to no 1 ?
Check everything in TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS security, privacy and advanced :doggie:

I have checked both machines and they are set the same.   I have "reset" security, restored defaults and the privacy is identical, both machines, no change.
My better half thinks I have done it on purpose to stop her bidding !!!!!!!!!!!  as though (I wouldn't dare)

Try clearing your cache and cookies, Keith.  Often works wonders!   :)

Have you tried logging off on the first machine, then logging on on the second machine?

Cant do that Lona as hes networked via no 1 so that has to be connected to the net before no 2 can connect.
Thats the advantage of having a router so that either pc can connect independantly of the other or both at the same time :doggie:

Hi Keith :welcome:

I wonder, can you ping the Ebay address from the second PC?

I'll talk you though it if you need help.

Edit: BTW which ISP are you using?

Ok, Sandra, I see what you mean. If he connects on one goes into ebay and loggs off.  The go back in again on two and logs on that should work.
