 XYZ
 ZYX
YXZ and so on with all the different jumper settings correct for each cable  >:( and all new cables.

Still sees it in the bios screen and not anywhere else........grrrrrrrr this is so frustrating  :-[

Hook

PS I wonder if I should do a repair install to see if that finds it?

Have you tried what I suggested, Hook?
Something else which might be worth a try is to 'uninstall' all the CD/DVD drives in Device Manager, then let Windows find them again.  I think you said they are all present on your boot screen, so maybe it has simply failed to install the CDRW, and has got confused with the drive letters?  This is only a blind guess, but I don't think it can do any harm.

Just to drag this one back into life again.

After all this time I have actually cracked it  ;D, after 12 forums countless shops etc etc.

I now have all 3 working, it was bloody easy in the end  ;D
went into start/control panel/system/hardware/device manager/eide controllers/primary... in advance settings device 1 and typed in auto detect.

Excellent news!  :D  I must admit, I haven't found as much use for mine as I thought I might, but at least it fills the case up!    ;D

Most 16 x DVD roms read CDs at 40 x Hooky, mine does  ???
The older 4x and 8 x ones were slower but that has surprised me  :(

I though it wasnt reading correctly, I just have my liteon 52 x CD writer and Pioneer 4 x DVD writer in and have found that to be ok for me as I heard that DVD to DVD recording on the fly wasnt a good idea  :)
