Printer problem
« on: December 18, 2002, 21:29 »
A friend of mine just phoned to tell me he has bought a new HP Deskjet with USB connection.  He's plugged it into his WinXP machine, inserted the CD and he reckons it says "CD not needed for XP".  The "New hardware detected" message didn't appear so he did it manually.  The bottom line is that the printer won't work.

USB devices sometimes like the software installed before the hardware Clive.I suggest you tell him to delete the printer from inside device manager and any software for the printer from add/install in control panel then see if it will take the cd again. After it has installed the software it will ask him to connect his printer and finish installing it.If it still doesnt take the cd software just reboot with the printer connected and it should detect it  :-*

Which DeskJet is it Clive?

To kick the PnP detection routine into working properly, he'll need to uninstall/delete the manually installed a printer driver.

A reboot should then allow the driver to automatically install.

It's a HP V45 Office printer.  I've phoned him and he's going to follow your advice.  I'll let you know how he gets on.

All my friends are imaginary Sandra.   ;D

This guy's name is Alva and I'm going to get him to join us very soon.  I'm about to post a reply about the modem problem.

When I first started programming, you could control a power station with only 1k. At least that's what Uncle Clive Sinclair said anyway ;D

Well, actually Hugh would be the very guy to ask about that because he was an electrical engineer at Aberthaw power station.  ;D

I make it 25p Adept.Actually I dont go back quite that far but I remember buying petrol at 6s 8d per gallon which was 3 gallons for a pound or about 7.5p per litre in todays money  ::)
And I could have a good night out, even if I bought my own drinks, for a pound (I drank quite a lot in those days too)  ;)
The downside was that I only earned £5 and 10s for a five and a half day week working in an insurance office as a clerk back in 1968  :(
Hey but it was the swinging 60s and I was there ( I think )  :-*

The cheapest I remember petrol was 50p a gallon and I remember the person I was with complaining bitterly how expensive petrol had become ::)

Ah, the 60's. My mother-in-law talks about them a lot. Apparently she was in the Isle-of-Wight at the same time as a certain concert. Doesn't remember a thing of course - which I suppose proves she was there.
